Prepares and administers radioactive medication to patients for therapeutic or imaging purpose. Performs nuclear cardiac imaging for the cardiac patient population operating the nuclear camera. Provides technical support to medical professionals and Physicians for the diagnosis, treatment, and care of the cardiac patient population. On-call as required by the department. Works in a hospital facility that offers full hospital services. Provides direct patient care to high acuity patients encompassing emergency, inpatient and outpatient classes supporting up to and including trauma and ICU.Job Duties
- Performs high quality nuclear cardiology procedure for cardiac outpatients including explanation of test and safety precautions, operates equipment, provides assistance during testing, observes patient, and reports/follows-up on any abnormal activity and documents.
- Operates cameras and other sophisticated imaging equipment to monitor how the administered drugs affect tissues and organs.
- Prepares and administers the proper dosage of radiopharmaceuticals and isotopes to patients by either injection or inhalation.
- Employs safety methods such as the use of syringe shields, gloves, and personal radiation-monitoring devices to protect patients and medical staff from radiation exposure.
- Oversees the ordering, storage, handling, and disposal of radiopharmaceuticals.
- Assists in quality assurance relating to calibration and maintenance of equipment, policies, and procedures and ICAL activity.
- Performs required documentation and record keeping.
- Associate’s Degree Nuclear Medicine
- 1 year Experience as a nuclear medicine technologist in a hospital setting
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and to use discretion with confidential data that may impact staff and operation.
- Ability to monitor/assess performance of oneself, others, or the organization to make improvements or take corrective action.
- Demonstrates patient support activities such as patient flow, preparation, clean up, and turnaround of examination rooms.
- Knowledge of nuclear medicine equipment and understanding of how to use it appropriately and safely to prevent radiation exposure as low as reasonably achievable.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support - State of Pennsylvania within 30 Days
- CNMT - Certified Nuclear Med Tech NMTCB - State of Pennsylvania or
- RT - Registered Technologist Radiology - State of Pennsylvania
- Bachelor’s Degree Nuclear Medicine
- 3 years Experience as a nuclear medicine technologist in a hospital setting
