Position Overview
We are seeking experiencedSuperintendentsto join ourHeavy Civil Roadway Division. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing, directing, and managing field operations in close coordination with the Project Manager or General Superintendent. This position plays a key leadership role in ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
Review and understand
- project plans, specifications, and special provisions before work begins.
Analyze project estimates and perform
- quantity take-offs to identify discrepancies before mobilization.
Collaborate with the
- Estimator and Project Manager to validate scope, schedule, and resources.
Assist in developing and maintaining the
- project schedule , ensuring timely coordination of crews, subcontractors, and materials.
Manage daily field operations, including
- pipe, concrete, paving, and grading crews .
Ensure all required submittals (shop drawings, mix designs, material approvals, traffic control layouts) are received and approved on time.
Coordinate all subcontractors, suppliers, and deliveries, considering lead times and logistical challenges.
Identify and document
changed conditions, discrepancies, and potential- change orders , providing all necessary backup documentation (drawings, photos, reports).
Maintain accurate
Blue Stake recordsand resolve any- utility conflicts promptly.
Arrange for
- yard locations, dump sites, and permits as required.
Review and discuss
- weekly cost reports with the Project Manager to identify variances or issues.
Oversee field safety, ensuring compliance with all company and regulatory safety standards.
Maintain site cleanliness and ensure
- safe working and traffic conditions at all times.
Keep
daily logsof progress, issues, and project events, and maintain accurate- as-built plans .
Conduct
- weekly safety meetings and enforce all safety policies on-site.
Prepare
monthly pay estimates,- final quantities , and closeout documentation.
Supervise and evaluate
- foremen, crews, and subcontractors to ensure quality and productivity.
Handle
- workforce management , including hiring, termination, and layoff decisions.
Participate in
- post-project reviews with the Project Manager to evaluate performance and outcomes.
Qualifications & Skills
Comprehensive knowledge of
- heavy civil construction methods , materials, and equipment.
Strong understanding of
- roadway, highway, and underground utility construction .
Familiarity with
- engineering principles , cost control, scheduling, and safety compliance.
Ability to read and interpret technical
- plans, blueprints, and specifications .
Proven ability to
- lead and motivate field crews and coordinate multi-discipline operations.
Excellent communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Clean Driver’s Licenserequired.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)preferred.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degreeinConstruction Managementor
- Civil Engineering preferred.
- 8+ yearsof construction management and/or field supervision experience.
Equivalent combinations of education and field experience will be considered.
