Moves patients to and from clinical units and various diagnostic/treatment areas via a wheelchair, stretcher, or bed which may include patients with oxygen tanks, intravenous pumps, drips, and other equipment. Coordinates patient transport activities in the facility as well as at the entrances. Responds to various alerts to prevent and assist with emergent situations. Performs equipment distribution functions and inventory management for clinical equipment in clinical areas. Delivers a high level of customer service and ensures the satisfaction of patients and staff and participants in providing and maintaining accurate information and inventory levels.Job Duties
- Transports patients in a safe and timely manner as directed by medical professional staff and established policies and procedures.
- Completes all training requirements and attends in-service education and scheduled departmental staff meetings for transportation planning and initiatives.
- Supports patient throughput and hospital capacity initiatives by using transport software, to facilitate timely patient transports.
- Coordinates activities in the discharged patient holding area.
- Handles portable oxygen cylinders safely.
- Obtains transport equipment for transport.
- Receives and documents patient transportation assignments.
- Performs equipment functions such as receiving, counting, stocking, transporting, cleaning and sanitizing medical equipment.
- Takes excess oxygen tanks to appropriate storage areas and ensures oxygen tanks are in appropriate holders.
- High School Diploma/GED
- Ability to demonstrate the importance of and ability to provide a high level of customer service.
- Ability to display a compassionate, positive, and upbeat disposition in interactions with customers/patients.

- BLS - Basic Life Support AHA - American Heart Association within 180 Days
Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
