Position Overview
The Corrections Maintenance Craftsman position, located at the Big Muddy Correctional Center will be an integral part of the maintenance team performing journey level maintenance and repair at the facility. The primary role of the Corrections Maintenance Craftsman is to inspect and identify equipment or machines in need of repair and will troubleshoot issues to determine necessary repairs. We are looking for a dedicated candidate seeking to be an integral part of our team, a candidate that can be trusted to display professionalism, integrity, civility and transparency. Essential Functions
- Performs preventive maintenance and repair of equipment.
- Performs preventive maintenance and repair of equipment daily.
- Performs preventive maintenance and repair of auxiliary equipment including lubrication pumps, and air compressors.
- Trains individuals in custody assigned to said craftsman.
- Maintains daily count of tools used during the day, keeping an accurate tool count.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high school.
- Requires experience necessary to qualify as a journeyman in one of the maintenance or automotive repair trades.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers at least three (3) years of work experience repairing and performing routine maintenance on vehicles.
- Prefers at least three (3) years of work experience maintaining a preventative maintenance schedule on heating/cooling equipment.
- Prefers at least three (3) years of work experience supervising individuals in an occupational setting.
- Prefers at least three (3) years of work experience performing the installation of heating and/or cooling equipment.
- Prefers at least three (3) years of work experience maintaining an inventory of tools, parts, and/or equipment.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of work experience training individuals in routine maintenance of heating/cooling equipment and/or vehicles.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of work experience maintaining physical and/or digital reports.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires the completion of an approved course in guard training within six (6) months of employment.
- Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
