This is an inpatient position within the Saint Francis/St. Mary’s Hospitals Rehabilitation Services Department.
The Staff Physical Therapist (Physical Therapist 2) reports to the Clinical Supervisor and provides both direct and indirect patient care services. The Staff Physical Therapist works primarily with adult and geriatric patients from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. A Staff Physical Therapist with specific pediatric competencies and clinical experience may also work with infants, children, and/or adolescents.
Under general direction and upon receipt of licensed approved provider written referrals, the Staff Physical Therapist plans and administers a full range of physical therapy services for patients with a variety of physical and cognitive impairments and disabilities. Services include:
Patient evaluations using physical therapy tests and measurements
Establishment of therapeutic intervention goals
Development and implementation of therapeutic intervention programs utilizing physical therapy interventions, modalities, and procedures
The Staff Physical Therapist demonstrates practice competence in managing patients of varying clinical acuity and complexity. They may seek mentoring for novel clinical presentations or areas of specialty practice in which they are not yet experienced or certified.
Additional responsibilities include:
Maintaining accurate and complete patient records related to the delivery of care
Demonstrating organized work habits and effective time management
Supervising Physical Therapy Students, Physical Therapy Residents, Physical Therapist Assistants, and Rehabilitation Aides as needed
Participating in ongoing professional and clinical development activities (40+ hours annually)
Actively engaging in and potentially leading departmental and organizational initiatives related to compliance, quality, safety, and process improvement

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.
For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications
• DPT Doctoral graduate degree.
o If graduated 15 or more years ago, a bachelor’s degree
• Minimum one year of licensed practice experience.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to recognize signs of distress.
• Basic computer skills including work within Epic electronic medical record.
• Possession of good interpersonal, time management, problem solving and self-initiation skills.
• This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience providing patient care in acute care hospital and acute rehab/IRF patient care setting.
- Prior experience working on an interdisciplinary health provider team.
License/Certification
• Possession of or proven eligibility for licensure as a Physical Therapist by the Physical Therapy Board
of California.
• Possession of or proven eligibility for AHA BLS certification.
