Job Summary:
We are seeking aClinical Nurse IIin ourDuke Children’s Specialty Creekstoneclinic located inDurham, NCto be an integral member of the healthcare team and provide direct and indirect care to patients.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide nurse triage support for selected group of Children’s Specialty providers. Assessing patient needs via phone or inbasket when answering calls/messages. Assess symptoms, current medications, collaborate with providers to update medication orders as needed, and submit prescription refills to pharmacy based on standing orders, initiating epilepsy care plans and school forms in addition to DME forms. Collaborate with pharmacies to provide compound medications as ordered. Initiating and following up on prior authorization submissions to insurance. Facilitating peer to peer reviews as needed. Documentation in electronic health record.
- Completing tasks in clinic as needed including collecting patient vital signs, medication review, injection teaching, specimen collection and correct labeling, bill for nursing procedures.
- Documentation in electronic health record.
- Monitor and initiate corrective action to maintain the environment of care, including equipment and material resources.
- Once oriented to the role: act as a preceptor to other triage nurses on a shift-by-shift basis including ability to triage patient phone calls/EHR messages, interpret, respond, route, and document appropriately.
- Participate in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate assistance or educational offerings.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Job Eligibility Requirements:
- Work requires graduation from an accredited BSN or Associate's Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program.
- All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within five years of their start date.
- Twelve months of appropriate clinical experience is required.
- Twelve months of pediatric experience is required.
- Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required.
