Freqently Asked Questions
Dayton's healthcare sector shows steady demand for Medical Social Workers, especially in hospital settings like Premier Health. While competition exists, candidates with Ohio licensure and oncology outpatient experience often have an advantage in this regional job market.
In Ohio, Medical Social Workers must hold an LSW license at minimum, with LISW preferred. Premier Health specifically requires licensure through the Ohio Counselor, Social Work, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board, ensuring compliance with state regulations.
Success in outpatient oncology social work hinges on strong critical thinking, interpersonal skills, and the ability to navigate complex patient-family dynamics. Familiarity with community resources and discharge planning is also vital to support patient care transitions effectively.
Premier Health encourages professional growth by involving Medical Social Workers in interdisciplinary teams and offering exposure to inpatient and outpatient programs, which can pave the way for leadership roles or specialized clinical positions within the hospital system.
Medical Social Workers in Dayton generally earn between $55,000 and $70,000 annually, influenced by experience and certifications. Roles at Premier Health may offer competitive pay aligned with regional healthcare salary standards and benefits.
Premier Health emphasizes multidisciplinary collaboration and outpatient oncology expertise, integrating social work with clinical teams more intensively than some local competitors, fostering a holistic approach to patient and family support.
At Premier Health, Medical Social Workers balance direct clinical care with discharge planning within both inpatient and outpatient settings, often navigating complex oncology cases, which may present a more specialized and dynamic workload than general hospital social work roles.
Challenges include managing high-stress patient scenarios, coordinating with diverse healthcare professionals, and addressing social determinants of health unique to Daytonโs demographic, requiring adaptability and strong organizational abilities.
Part-time roles exist but tend to focus on specific clinics or outpatient services, offering more flexible hours but potentially less involvement in interdisciplinary rounds compared to full-time positions like those at Premier Health.
