Description
Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Assistant performs preventative maintenance, repairs, and improvements to the building and grounds to keep the facility’s appearance attractive and the physical plant well maintained.
As driver, responsible for chauffeuring the residents to and from various destinations at scheduled days and times. The driver may also be on-call for special trips on an individual basis. The driver is responsible for providing the highest standards of safety, cleanliness, resident services and quality for this facility.
Position Responsibilities include:
Maintenance Assistant:
• Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor and/or the Administrator, performs various tasks associated with the maintenance and repair of facility, buildings, grounds, and equipment.
• Performs preventative maintenance, repairs, and safety programs, for HVAC, water, gas, electric, mechanical, and all other building systems.
• Performs repairs and refurbishment of apartments to maintain them properly for current residents and to make them ready for new occupancy.
• Preserves the cleanliness and orderliness of the maintenance work and storage areas and maintains tools and equipment as appropriate.
• Is available evenings, nights, and weekends in case of emergencies.
Driver:
• Provides chauffeuring of residents in van provided by facility.
o Will provide trips for medical appointments and shopping.
o Picks up residents, transports to destinations, and returns
residents to the manor as scheduled.
o Assists residents in handling grocery items.
o Assists residents in getting on and getting off of the van.
o Special day trips
Transport residents to and from special trip destinations
o At all times, is alert to any resident problems and responds
as appropriate.
• Provides general maintenance for engine and interior of van, including:
o Keeps the van filled with gasoline.
o Periodically checks the oil and water.
o Washes the exterior and vacuums the interior of the van as
needed to maintain cleanliness.
o After each trip, checks the van for items which resident may
have forgotten or dropped.
o Monitors the mechanical condition of the vehicle and reports
o any problems or suspected problems to the maintenance
department.
• Has a valid Class B. Drivers License with a passenger transport endorsement.
•Drives in a safe and law-abiding manor at all times, being courteous to residents, pedestrians, and other vehicles/drivers, so the van becomes a positive advertisement for the facility.
Qualifications
Education:
High school graduate or graduate of a technical or vocational school. Must be able to read and comprehend the English language. Able to follow written directions, as in the preventative maintenance manual, chemical products, manufacturer’s manuals, etc.
Training and Experience:
Two years’ experience with progressive responsibility in maintenance functions.
High School education or vocational training preferred. Valid California driver’s license required. No moving violations and/or accidents within the last three years. Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain any special operator’s licenses necessary for operation of the van (Class B license including required medical clearance).
All staff that provide direct care to residents will have current first aid training.
Job Knowledge:
A minimum of two years of general maintenance experience with emphasis upon electrical, plumbing and carpentry.
Knowledge of California driving and safety laws. Knowledge of location of van trip routes and destinations.
