Supports various laboratory departments and customers by performing tasks such as clerical duties, clarifying pre-analytical test requirements, order entry, specimen collections, processing samples, specimen transport distribution, supply inventory, and other non-technical support. Prepares and packages specimens/slides for transport according to shipping requirements. Performs waived testing under general supervision.Job Duties
- Orders, receives, and triages incoming specimens/slides and evaluates specimen integrity. Verifies that specimens/slides are labeled according to laboratory policy and all paperwork is correct. Performs laboratory information system functions associated with these processes.
- Prepares specimens/slides and completes laboratory information system functions and documentation for send out to reference laboratory.
- Operates assigned equipment and performs all procedures in a safe manner. Performs waived testing as assigned.
- Addresses client questions and problems promptly, accurately, and in a friendly and professional manner.
- Notifies collection site when errors or problems are found to obtain the correct information.
- Assists with unpacking supplies upon receipt and placing them in the appropriate storage areas/temperatures.
- High School Diploma/GED
- Ability to read, understand, and speak basic English.
- Demonstrated basic computer skills, including the use of email.
- Ability to perform basic math skills.
Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
