Expertise in econometrics, Bayesian analysis, and panel data methods significantly enhances research quality in postdoctoral economics roles. Candidates who master these approaches better contribute to the American Economic Association’s intellectual community and produce impactful research outcomes.
Engaging with the PPE society’s student fellows fosters mentorship skills, broadens academic networks, and enriches interdisciplinary perspectives. This involvement positions postdocs to influence emerging scholars while deepening their own research insights within philosophy, politics, and economics.
Apart from independent research, emphasis on active collaboration during academic terms and teaching a PPE course annually sets this position apart. The residency requirement encourages dynamic faculty interaction, creating a robust community not commonly found in remote or short-term postdoctoral roles.
While federal grants remain primary, Rhode Island’s proximity to academic hubs like Brown University opens doors to state-sponsored and private foundation funding. Postdoctoral researchers in North Kingstown can leverage local economic research networks for collaborative grant applications.
Postdoctoral economics researchers in North Kingstown can expect salaries generally between $55,000 and $70,000 annually. This aligns with national averages for similar positions, though benefits and institutional resources at prestigious centers like Brown University may add additional value.
The Rhode Island region sees moderate competition due to its concentration of academic institutions. The American Economic Association attracts highly qualified candidates nationwide, so standing out requires a strong publication record and active participation in interdisciplinary economic research communities.
Postdoctoral researchers enjoy substantial freedom to pursue independent projects aligned with the Association’s focus areas. This autonomy is balanced by collaborative expectations, such as participating in workshops and contributing to the academic community’s vibrant intellectual exchange.
The Association emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration and engagement with cutting-edge economic theories, fostering a stimulating environment. Postdoctoral researchers benefit from mentorship opportunities, diverse seminars, and access to expansive academic networks that accelerate career advancement.
Researchers are expected to teach one course per academic year within the PPE curriculum. This responsibility supports pedagogical development and integrates postdocs into Brown’s educational mission while allowing sufficient time for their own research pursuits.
Being physically present four days a week fosters spontaneous collaboration and deeper connections with faculty and peers. This face-to-face interaction enhances intellectual exchange and may lead to joint projects or publications more readily than remote arrangements.
