Chicago, IllinoisThe Network Engineer designs, implements, and manages the organization's computer networks, ensuring stable, secure, and efficient connectivity for users and devices. They handle everything from initial network setup and configuration to ongoing maintenance, troubleshooting, and security. They also work to optimize network performance and ensure compliance with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:- Creating network blueprints, selecting hardware and software, and configuring network components like routers, switches, and firewalls.
- Monitoring and optimizing network performance, identifying and resolving issues, and performing routine maintenance and upgrades.
- Implementing security measures to protect the network and data from unauthorized access and cyber threats.
- Ensuring network performance meets the needs of users, troubleshooting bottlenecks, and optimizing network configurations.
- Creating and maintaining network documentation, generating reports on network performance, and providing status updates to stakeholders.
- Working with other IT professionals, vendors, and users to address network needs and resolve issues.
- Strong knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP), routing and switching, firewalls, wireless technologies, and network security principles.
- Ability to analyze complex problems, identify root causes, and develop effective solutions.
- Ability to effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.
- Experience with network monitoring tools, configuration management tools, and security tools.
- Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Networking, or related field; or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in network engineering in addition to the ‘equivalent hands-on experience’ required in replacement of a bachelor’s degree.
- 5+ years of experience in multi-site networks supporting 5000+ end points
- Self-starting attitude looking to take ownership of managing the environment.
- Well versed in ITIL concepts
- Experience with Linux or Unix is a plus
- Experience working with ServiceNow is preferred
- Relevant certifications, such as,, or equivalent are preferred.
