SUMMARY OF POSITION:

An Advanced EMT (AEMT) functions as a care provider in the pre-hospital setting. They are responsible for all aspects of care provided to the sick and injured. The AEMT provides basic life support and some advanced skills (AEMT), including patient assessment, airway management, use of the automatic defibrillator and assisting and administering medications to patients. This person is responsible for driving the ambulance in a safe manner under all conditions. The AEMT will work under the direction of a Paramedic and assume a support role. The AEMT must understand all applicable legal, moral and ethical issues surrounding emergency medical service. They must be dedicated to continued learning through continuing education and maintenance of licensures and certifications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • AHA BLS required within six (6) months of hire.
  • Valid Driver's license required and eligible to operate an EMS vehicle in the Commonwealth of PA required.
  • PA DOH EMSVO certification required within 30 days of start date
  • ACLS certification required within 6 months
  • PALS certification required within 6 months
  • EMT Advanced certification required
  • Ability to obtain Medical Command authorization through competencies established by the Medical Director
  • Hazmat Awareness Training must be obtained within 30 days of start date.
  • NIMS (100, 200, 700, 800) required within 30 days of start date.
