Summary
Acts as a first responder on the accident, emergency, or interfacility transport. Assesses the severity of injuries and assists emergency health care providers to deliver care to patients. Provides safe and timely ground transport of patients, while providing basic life support within scope of practice. Operates emergency vehicles including ambulance.Job Duties
- Operates emergency vehicle, most notably ambulance.
- Shares responsibilities to complete post transport activities such as cleaning, refueling, and restocking ambulance supplies and equipment.
- Functions as a primary or secondary caregiver to ensure that each patient receives treatment that is in accordance with all transport policies and procedures.
- Works in conjunction with leadership to ensure ambulances are functioning and serviced and maintains response times within targeted benchmarks.
- Maintains contact with dispatcher, transfer center, and/or MedEvac AOC on any problems or questions pertaining to duties and policies.
- Provides therapeutic intervention, emergency interventions, and preparation for transport from hospitals or accident scenes.
- Evaluates critically ill or injured patients of all age groups (neonatal through adult).
- Coordinates transport related phone calls, including inter-institutional or intra-institutional calls.
- Reviews charts to ensure complete and consistent documentation of patient records.
- Initiates action to prevent current or potential risk to a patient in an emergency situation.
- Follows Network/Department guidelines decontamination of work area and transport vehicle both daily and
after every patient mission.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
- 1 year EMT experience
- Ability to work under pressure and meet close deadlines.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
- Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem solving skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office software, MS Outlook, and EMR applications.
- Knowledge of emergency and ambulance vehicles.

Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
