Mechanic
Work Year/Hours: 12 months /7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (One-hour unpaid lunch) To Be Assigned by Coordinator
Start date: Immediately
Salary: $26.46 to $28.41 in three steps (Tier 1) + $1.50/hour for BPS Endorsements
Preferred Qualifications:
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL with BPS endorsement) including Air Brake Test. District will also consider achieving certifications within 6 months on the job.
Minimum Qualifications: (Evidence of qualifications must be on file by closing date of posting)
A criminal records check, driver’s record check, physical examination and drug and alcohol test are required for all new transportation department staff.
- State of Michigan certification in at least one critical area of heavy-duty truck/school bus repair and maintenance. Candidate will possess or achieve within 6 months the air brake test.
- Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with parents, community, staff and students.
- Ability to handle emergencies and operational problems.
- Evidence of dependability and good work attendance.
- Minimum 3-5 years working in mechanic field.

Duties and Responsibilities: (Examples only)
- Assume daily duties based on instruction from the Coordinator/Team Leader.
- Inspect all vehicles on a regular schedule for safety defects; repair all body rust.
- Review Daily Safety Inspection Sheets every day.
- Prepare and process vehicles for annual safety inspection by Michigan State Police.
- Lubricate and change oil on schedule as required, including spare buses.
- Make emergency road service calls and repairs as necessary, including tire changes.
- Responsible for logging on all overtime hours.
- Responsible for repairing bus seats and replacing headlamps and marker lights on vehicles, as needed.
- Maintain inventory on all parts and supplies. Stock shelves. Maintain stockroom and floors.
- Transportation of students when needed.
- Perform other duties as may be determined by administration.
