Job Title: Occupational Therapist

Dept. /School: Special Education Department

Reports to: Director of Special Programs

Contractual Days: 169
Qualifications:Required Qualifications and Skills:

• Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.

• Current Texas license as an Occupational Therapist (OTR) through the Texas Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners.

• National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) certification, preferred.

• Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and state special education regulations.

• Experience working in school settings preferred.

• Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Assessment and Evaluation

- Conduct comprehensive occupational therapy evaluations in accordance with IDEA and district policies.

- Interpret evaluation data and provide written reports for the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) committee.

- Recommend eligibility for services and levels of support based on student needs.

Intervention and Direct Services

- Provide individual, small-group, and classroom-based occupational therapy interventions aligned with IEP goals.

- Develop and implement therapy strategies to support fine motor, sensory processing, visual-motor, and self-care skills necessary for participation in the school environment.

- Adapt instructional materials, tools, and routines to promote access to the curriculum.

Collaboration and Consultation

- Collaborate with teachers and staff to integrate therapy strategies into classroom instruction and routines.

- Provide consultation to staff and families regarding environmental modifications and instructional supports.

- Participate in ARD meetings, multidisciplinary team discussions, and staff development activities.

Documentation and Compliance

- Maintain accurate and timely student records, progress monitoring data, and service logs in compliance with district, state, and federal requirements.

- Prepare and submit documentation for Medicaid reimbursement, if applicable.

- Ensure confidentiality of student information as required by FERPA and district policies.

Professional Responsibilities

- Stay current on best practices, research, and legal requirements related to occupational therapy in educational settings.

- Provide training and professional development for teachers, paraprofessionals, and parents.

- Participate in professional learning communities and contribute to a culture of collaboration and inclusion.

- Other Duties as assigned as per the needs of the District

Working Conditions

- Environment: Public school campuses and classrooms.

- Physical Demands: Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and positioning students; ability to lift up to 40 lbs.

- Schedule: Follows district calendar and assigned work hours. May require travel between campuses.

Salary Range:Commensurate with experience.

BISD pays $350 per month towards the employee's TRS Health Insurance.
