and rich tradition of community education. Flint Community Schools provide a range of academic, extended services and
extracurricular activities at the elementary and secondary levels to meet the needs of our students and their families.
Essential Functions:
1. Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning by employing a variety of appropriate teaching strategies.
2. Develops and effectively implements purposeful and appropriate lesson plans.
3. Demonstrates high expectations for student achievement and behavior.
4. Presents information and directs structural learning experiences so that individual students learn.
5. Addresses the affective needs of students.
6. Develops, in accordance with district and building guidelines, reasonable rules of classroom behavior and appropriate discipline techniques which are consistent with those rules.
7. Assesses progress of students on an on-going basis.
8. Works cooperatively with parents to strengthen the educational program for their children.
9. Works cooperatively with the administration to develop and maintain positive public relations within the community.
10. Keeps current in subject matter knowledge, educational research, learning theory and professional development issues.
11. Indicates a willingness to work collaboratively for school improvement.
12. Demonstrates a willingness to become involved in extra-curricular activities which extend the learning experiences of students.
13. Maintains a positive attitude.
14. Maintains appropriate work habits, including regular and punctual attendance and appropriate use of conference and planning time.
Qualifications:
Education: Michigan Secondary Teacher Certification. Meet requirements for highly qualified status under NCLB. Spanish Language Endorsement or Certification
Skills:
- The ability to work cooperatively on a teaching team.
- The ability to communicate with students effectively through speaking, reading and writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience
- Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office, Internet, Email and On-line grading
- Knowledge of common assessments and teaching methods
