Carilion Clinic is searching for a pediatric surgeon to join an established group of three pediatric surgeons in Roanoke, Virginia.
Carilion Children's Hospital serves as the tertiary referral center for a population of 1 million people in southwest Virginia and provides a full range of pediatric services including the only designated Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center west of Richmond. Carilion Children’s is located within Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, a 763-bed teaching/tertiary care center, and is comprised of a standing 8-bed PICU with flex into other critical care areas, a 27-bed inpatient unit, a 60-bed NICU/intermediate nursing unit, and a 27 bed Pediatric Emergency Department. Ground and air transportation services in the region are provided by the Carilion Clinic pediatric critical care transport team. New construction at Roanoke Memorial Hospital will bring more specialized pediatric space in the hospital. There is also a new $42M remodel of the Carilion Children's outpatient center in roughly 129,000 sq ft housing the outpatient providers allowing enhanced collaboration for pediatric care including pediatric surgery, adolescent medicine, pediatric primary care, cardiology, pulmonology, ENT, audiology, dentistry, endocrinology, genetics, hematology oncology, infectious disease, and gastroenterology.
The Section of Pediatric Surgery is in the Department of Surgery which is comprised of 77 faculty surgeons, 55 advanced care practitioners, and 47 residents/fellows in general surgery, plastic surgery, and neurosurgery residencies and surgical critical care and advanced GI/Minimally Invasive Surgery fellowships. In 2007, Carilion partnered with Virginia Tech to create the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM) and the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC. This position includes the opportunity for academic appointment to VTCSOM, and research interests are supported with research and student teaching opportunities available.
