The duties that the incumbent of the vacancy will be expected to perform.Duties DescriptionPsychiatrists are essential to providing mental health services to the people OMH serves. They provide comprehensive and recovery oriented psychiatric treatment services built on principles of effective, measurable, and accountable care. As medical doctors, psychiatrists are responsible for ensuring that all services are integrated to promote mental and physical health and recovery. Additionally, since psychopharmacology has become an integral component of modern mental health treatment, psychiatrists serve as primary prescribers.
Assistant Psychiatrists assist in providing psychiatric care and treatment services to individuals under the direct supervision of a licensed psychiatrist or physician.
Psychiatrists 1 diagnose, treat, prescribe, and provide psychiatric care and treatment services to assigned individuals under the direction of a higher-level psychiatrist or physician.
Psychiatrists 2 independently diagnose, treat, prescribe, and provide psychiatric care and treatment services to assigned individuals; provide clinical supervision and guidance to lower-level psychiatrists, physicians, and/or other medical providers; and may manage care and treatment services for an assigned facility, unit, or program.
The minimum qualifications required for this vacancy.Minimum QualificationsCandidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (NY HELPS) program if they have:
• License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State; and
• Certification in psychiatry approved by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN); and
• Certification in forensic psychiatry approved be the ABPN.
OR
Candidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
