Bridge Maintenance Workers/Snow & Ice

TheMinnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), Metro District is seeking multiple Night Bridge Maintenance Workers/Snow & Ice!
Some examples of work include, but are not limited to:
Bridge Maintenance:
- Performs and maintains necessary repairs and installations in steel fabrication and erection of bridges and structures so that structural integrity is maintained at the lowest safety risk and inconvenience to the public.
- Performs concrete work for the construction/ repair of bridges and structures so that concrete will be correctly placed, consolidated, finished, and cured to a proper surface in accordance with specifications.
- Performs carpentry duties related to bridges, buildings, and structures to ensure proper construction, remodeling, and forming is completed in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with standards and relevant building codes.
- Assists with safety inspections on bridges and structures, clean and prepare bridges, buildings, and structures for painting to ensure structural integrity is maintained according to Federal and State requirements.
- Provide traffic control set up.
Snow and Ice:
- Maintains roadways for snow and ice control.
- Removes snow from roadways and shoulders.
- Opens and widens roadways of large accumulations of snow.
- Removes snow from rights of way or yards.
- Applies anti-icing and de-icing chemicals on stretches of highway under slippery conditions.
- Removes ice and material from culverts.
Minimum Qualifications:
Two years of experience performing carpentry OR concrete OR iron work OR a combination of one or more of these activities.
- Examples of carpentry may include building construction; building repairs; or framing.
- Examples of concrete work may include grading; bridge construction, repair, and maintenance; or forming, placing, and finishing concrete.
- Examples of iron work may include structural steel erection; setting anchor bolts and inserts; gusset plate installation; placement of reinforcing steel or rebar; or rebar replacement.
AND
- Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.
- Class A CDL Permit with no airbrake restriction and a tanker endorsement.
Please note:A two-year technical trades training or degree (e.g., carpentry, concrete/masonry, etc.) or equivalent may be substituted for one year of experience.
**The incumbents are required to be immediately accessible to a phone and be able to report to work within one (1) hour of being called in the event of an emergency and/or snow and ice event.

Shift Differential & Night Maintenance Premium Pay:
- The shift differential for employees working on assigned shifts which begin before 6:00 A.M. or which end at orafter 6:00 P.M. shall be two dollars and twenty-five cents ($2.25) per hour for all hours worked before 6:00A.M. or after 6:00 P.M on that shift. Such shift differential shall be in addition to the employee's regular rate of pay and shall be included in all payroll calculations but shall not apply during periods of paid leave. An employee who requests and is approved by their supervisor to work before 6 A.M. or after 6 P.M., shall not be eligible for the shift differential.
- Maintenance employees working night shifts of durations lasting three (3) months or more, covered by this agreement, shall receive Night Premium Pay of $2.00/hour for all shifts which start between 7:00 pm and12:00 am. This will apply to all hours for the scheduled straight time shift. Such premium pay shall be in addition to the employee’s hourly rate of pay, and any shift differential the employee would otherwise be entitled to. The premium pay shall be included in all payroll calculations for shifts actually worked, but shall not apply during periods of paid leave, or in calculations of back-pay.
