Second Cook - Seasonal - Includes housing!
Position Summary
The Second Cook works closely with the Head Cook to prepare and serve meals for guests and staff at Diamond Arrow Christian Conference Center during the summer season. This position is responsible for leading at least one meal service each day, ensuring that meals are well-prepared, on time, and served with excellence. The Second Cook also helps lead and mentor a team of young adult kitchen staff, guiding them through food preparation, meal service, and cleanup. This role is ideal for someone who is ministry-minded, enjoys teamwork, and desires to use their culinary skills to serve others in a Christ-centered environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Collaborate with the Head Cook to prepare and serve daily meals for guests and staff.
• Take primary responsibility for preparing and putting out at least one meal each day.
• Lead a team of young adults in setting up the kitchen and dining hall, serving meals, and cleaning up afterward.
• Ensure meals are prepared safely and meet quality and dietary standards.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen, storage, and dining areas.
• Assist with inventory, food storage, and restocking as needed.
• Model servant leadership and a Christ-centered attitude in all interactions.
• Support the overall mission and ministry of Diamond Arrow through hospitality and teamwork.
Qualifications
• Prior experience working in a commercial or camp kitchen required.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Able to lift 30–50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
• Ministry-minded and committed to serving in a Christian community setting.
• Food Handler’s Certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience leading or mentoring young adults.
• Knowledge of quantity cooking and meal planning for large groups.
• Previous camp or retreat center kitchen experience.
Compensation & Benefits
This is a seasonal position that runs from mid-May through mid-August depending on the needs of the season. Dorm-style housing is provided, and meals are included when provided for campers. This position pays $600 per week.
