The Spence School, founded in 1892, is an independent school for girls and young women with an enrollment of 804 students in Grades K–12. We are seeking a Communications Coordinator to join our highly collaborative four-member team in a position that offers a wide variety of responsibilities in a busy and collegial environment. This position reports to the Director of Communications and Public Relations.

Salary $70,000-$75,000

Responsibilities

The Communications Coordinator has exciting opportunities for immersion in the life of the School with two primary areas of responsibility: managing the schoolwide events/calendar planning and coordination, and implementing online strategies and solutions for school communications. The Communications Coordinator supports the planning of the School’s programs and events calendar and is responsible for maintaining the School’s website calendar. The Coordinator is also responsible for essential aspects of school communications such as creating online forms, managing content on the website, ensuring data integrity for directories and managing pushpage emails. The coordinator also assists with photography of school activities and covers communications and news for one academic division. A more detailed list of responsibilities includes:

  • Coordinate the planning and online publishing of the School’s comprehensive calendar
  • Collaborate with Facilities Office to approve events and calendar requests in the EMS database
  • Work proactively with various school divisions to avoid programmatic and facility usage conflicts
  • Enter, update and maintain all calendar data on the website as a comprehensive information tool for the entire Spence community
  • Lead news and content development for the website for an academic division and assist in creating the weekly online parents’ newsletter
  • Collaborate with data services across the School to ensure the integrity of data and protocols for the faculty and staff, students and parents, as well as alumnae communities
  • Create online forms using multiple third-party solutions to facilitate event and program registrations
  • Manage scheduling and distribution lists for pushpage emails
  • Assist with photography and videography coverage of school activities
  • Coordinate with the Athletic Department to engage photographers for select athletic competitions
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and minimum of three years of related program/event information management and administrative experience within educational or not-for-profit settings required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong technical skills required, including proficient knowledge of web applications, web-based databases and productivity tools including Excel and G Suite
  • Familiarity with Blackbaud web-based solutions a plus
  • Proficiency in photography, videography and creating multi-media content
  • Meticulous attention to details and excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to process, organize and share a large volume of information, ensuring that school communications are proactive, timely and accurate
  • Ability to manage complex responsibilities and prioritize among multiple demands and deadlines
  • Ability to work with a variety of constituents and to lead problem-solving tasks with tact and professionalism
