Job SummaryPosition Summary
The Drug Endangered Children Coordinator is responsible for development and implementation of program services for drug endangered children and their families in Rutherford County. The DEC Coordinator works as a team with Department of Children’s Services, law enforcement, Our Kids, Volunteer Behavioral Health, mental health services, and the District Attorney’s Office to assist drug endangered children and their non offending parents, grandparents, and family members. The DEC Coordinator works with the Family Services Coordinator and the Executive Director to fulfill the goals and objectives of the Child Advocacy Center.
Job ResponsibilitiesDuties and Responsibilities
Client Services:
- Develop and provide program services to Rutherford County drug endangered children and their families
- Provide crisis intervention counseling, case management and referral services, safety planning, crisis telephone line, follow up services, court advocacy, personal advocacy, emergency financial assistance, home visits for drug endangered children, and coordination of services to victims.
- Establish a trusting relationship with at-risk families by initiating and maintaining regular contact
- Provide back-up in child abuse and child sexual abuse cases
Systems Advocacy
- Work as a team with Department of Children’s Services, law enforcement, Our Kids, Volunteer Behavioral Health, mental health counselors, and the District Attorney’s Office to assist victims of child abuse, child sexual abuse, and drug endangered children and their non-offending family members
- Advocate on behalf of individual clients
- Advocate for change that improves the systemic response to drug endangered children
- Act as a liaison between families and other community agencies
- Attend CPIT Team Meetings, the Rutherford County Coalition Against Child Abuse, Prevention Coalition for Success, and community meetings related to child abuse and substance abuse
Case Tracking
- Track drug endangered children’s cases from the point of referral through the conclusion of the case
- Enter all client case data into the NCA Trak computerized case tracking system
- Maintain client records in a complete and concise manner
Volunteer Coordination
Interview, screen, train, supervise, and evaluate student interns and client services volunteersCommunity Education
- Provide community education on child abuse, child sexual abuse, drug endangered children, and Child Advocacy Center program services
- Provide back-up to Darkness to Light Stewards of Children Training to identify crime victims, encourage child abuse reporting within the community, and refer crime victims to needed services
Evaluation
Survey clients regularly throughout the year to assess the effectiveness of the programReporting
Compile client services, statistical, and survey data for Office of Criminal Justice Programs, State of Tennessee, Children’s Advocacy Centers of Tennessee, National Children’s Alliance, Board of Directors, and other funding sourcesSupervision
- Attend regular supervision meetings and staff meetings
- Attend conferences, training, and meetings for professional development
- Follow Child Advocacy Center policies and procedures
- Other duties as assigned in a timely manner
Job Specifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Working knowledge of the dynamics of child abuse, child sexual abuse and neglect, domestic violence, parent-child interaction, child development, substance abuse, and the ability to apply this information
- Working knowledge of Rutherford County community resources and the ability to use appropriately to meet families’ needs
- Ability to effectively monitor client interaction
- Communication and problem-solving skills to effectively work with families
- Organizational skills to independently manage workload and related responsibilities
- Ability to function under pressure in crisis situations
- Ability to work with diverse populations
- Ability to work effectively with employees from other agencies and community groups
- Ability to work in a team environment where multiple players contribute to problem solving
- Ability to read, write and speak English
- Ability to read, write, and speak Spanish preferred, but not required
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form

- Must be able to provide transportation for clients with licensed, insured driver with current Tennessee driver’s license and safe driving record
Education and Experience
- B.A. or B.S. in Social Work or related field required, Master’s degree preferred
- Alcohol and drug counseling experience preferred
- Crisis intervention counseling, case management, court advocacy, volunteer supervision, community education, home visits, and support group experience preferred
- Demonstrated maturity and experience in successfully working with families
Special Requirements
- Must pass a thorough TBI background investigation and FBI finger print background check
- Must have reliable transportation and be able to travel in Rutherford County to work cases
- Available on 24-hour call with a cellular telephone to respond to a crisis and be on-site within 30 minutes
SalaryRange
Salary Range $55,000-$67,000 (Full time – 40 hours per week)Additional InformationBenefitsVacation:2 weeks of vacation annually, 3 weeks of vacation after 2 years of employment

Holidays:Observes all State of Tennessee holidays
