Chairs & Professors are expected to champion the association's values by promoting rigorous scholarship, fostering ethical practices, and facilitating collaborations that advance the economics discipline nationally.
The role could expand to include outreach programs, mentorship schemes, and curriculum innovation in line with the association’s goals. This evolution encourages integrating cutting-edge research with teaching to cultivate future economists who address global economic challenges.
Salaries typically range from $130,000 to $180,000 annually, reflecting the blend of teaching, research leadership, and administrative duties. Compensation often factors in the candidate’s experience, institutional prestige, and the competitive Georgia academic market.
The demand for senior academic leaders in economics is moderate but growing, driven by expanding university programs. Candidates with a proven record in research leadership and faculty development often face stiff competition, especially in institutions emphasizing interdisciplinary scholarship.
While formal certifications are uncommon, recognized fellowships, editorial board memberships, and leadership roles in professional economic societies enhance candidacy. Additionally, demonstrated expertise in econometrics or development economics aligns well with regional research priorities.
Balancing varied research interests and managing interdisciplinary collaborations require diplomatic leadership. Challenges include fostering inclusivity, aligning individual goals with institutional missions, and securing resources amidst competitive funding landscapes.
Fundraising is a crucial competency, as Chairs often spearhead grant proposals and donor relations to support research initiatives. Proficiency in securing external funding not only sustains faculty projects but also elevates the school’s academic stature.
