The Department of Economics at Furman University invites applications for a tenure-track position to begin August 1, 2026. The department recently developed a major in Finance-Economics to complement our longstanding majors in Economics and Mathematics-Economics. The new major is quantitatively rigorous, grounded in economic theory, and includes three core Finance-Economics courses: Corporate Finance, Investments, and a capstone Finance-Economics Seminar.
The Department of Economics encourages applications from candidates who demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching, student advising, and research in a liberal arts environment. In addition to teaching courses in their areas of expertise, all department members contribute to teaching across the curriculum. A successful candidate for this position will teach courses in economics, especially principles of economics, and at least one of the core Finance-Economics courses. The teaching responsibility is five courses per academic year. We are interested in hiring faculty members with diverse perspectives who will foster innovation in our curriculum and provide a rich and varied educational experience for our students. A PhD in economics or a closely related field, such as finance, by August 1, 2026, is required.

Applicants are required to submit the following documents electronically: a letter of interest, a curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching philosophy, a sample of scholarly work, and contact information for three references. Applicants should arrange to have three letters of reference submitted on their behalf. The statement of teaching philosophy should describe your inclusive teaching and mentoring efforts, broadly conceived, and how your teaching and mentoring may contribute to a liberal arts and sciences community that aims, among other things, to “honor inquiry, promote diversity, [and] strive for equity” (FUture Focused). You may also discuss any relevant professional development, service contributions, or other experiences that have refined your skills or demonstrate your efforts in these areas.
